Fence Standards

August, 2004

  1. The fence will be constructed in a substantial, workmanlike manner. Fence installation techniques must meet the current City code. Poor workmanship shall be a cause for rejection of the construction.

  2. The fence will be made of black coated chain link. The fence will be constructed so that the barbed end is at the bottom of the fence and the knuckle end is at the top. Any gates will be constructed of the same materials and specifications as the fence.

  3. The fence will be erected or maintained no more than five feet in height.

  4. The fence will be erected with the finished side facing outward from the property. The posts and support beams shall be on the inside or shall be designed as an integral part of the finished surface.

  5. The fence must be true to line and grade. This means the fence must be erected vertically and must run essentially straight along the property line.

  6. The fence will be set back from the property line at least two (2) feet.

  7. The fence will not extend forward of the back corners of the house. Side yard fences are not permitted. The fence cannot extend into the front yard,

  8. No portion of the fence will be visible from the street. If the fence extends beyond the side edge of the house, it will be shielded by landscaping.

  9. The fence will be maintained in a condition of reasonable repair and will not be allowed to become and remain in a condition of disrepair or danger, or constitute a nuisance, public or private.

  10. Lawn maintenance and trimming of grass at the base of the fence are the sole responsibility of the homeowner.
